Journal Club

What can active matter and non-equilibrium statistical physics teach us about biological complexity?

In this weekly journal club, we will read and discuss papers covering a range of topics from the major evolutionary transitions and the emergence of multicellularity to quantitative metrics of individuality and adaptation in physical systems. The goal is to establish a space where interdisciplinary ideas can be explored and discussed, gaps in understanding can be identified, and new collaborations can be formed.

Interested? Check out our mission statement for a list of topics and of potential papers.

Schedule:

Summer Schedule:

This summer (2025), we will be focusing on the cross-section between Information Theory and Biophysics. We will be meeting weekly on Thursdays at 1 pm in the PLS space (MIT building 4, room 332).

Want to join? Check out our schedule to see the planned readings and reach out to Hyun or Will to let us know you're coming!

Feedback:

We want to bring in people with a variety of backgrounds, interests, and perspectives and create a space for exploring new interdisciplinary ideas. Have you attended a meeting? If so, we want to hear from you! Tell us what you liked, the ways you think it could be improved, or readings and topics you would like to see in the future. Please take a moment to fill out this form.
